DENIM, BUT MAKE IT CASHMERE
The Savoir-Faire

The BARRIE denim jacket is the House’s most iconic design: a denim-style jacket, knitted entirely in finest cashmere and cotton thread, and created as a trompe-l’œil piece. This idea of an “illusion” piece, using BARRIE’s cashmere knitwear savoir-faire to recreate a classic garment, is a signature of the House.
Each garment is produced individually by the BARRIE manufacture in Hawick, Scotland, founded in 1903.

A jacket requires nine hours of work, involving nine different processes, of which six are done by hand: assembly, quality control, finishing, steaming, placing of buttons and label.
A computer software program turns the design into a digital pattern, with each pixel representing a stitch. This is then executed by cutting-edge Shima Seiki knitting machines.
The pieces are washed using water from the nearby River Teviot – the washing time is judged individually by BARRIE’s expert craftspeople.
